How Lenzie began

How Lenzie began

Distinguished local historian Don Martin has a special take on the theme which is the title of the talk he will give to Lenzie Community Council, covering the first houses – when were they built, why were they built and who built them. There will be a postscript on the development of the parking problem in commuter Lenzie.

Talk at Lenzie Golf Club on Thursday 14th November

Christmas Lights Switch-On

Christmas Lights Switch-On

2010switchon1-22Despite the high winds and rain on Friday night, the event went ahead and there was an amazingly high turnout of parents and children.  The event was moved inside to the Hall of Lenzie Old Parish Church and this made sure that the Band, the Carol Singers and Father Christmas were not blown away – Father Christmas’s beard had a hard time all the same.

When the big switch-on time came along, the pavement at Queen’s Buildings was lined with expectant children and adults who had a grandstand view of the dazzling light up.  More photos on Facebook page.

Many thanks to all those who participated and who defied the weather to come along.

Join us for carols outside Lenzie Old Parish Church, starting at 5 pm.   Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass will be playing and Lenzie Christian Fellowship will lead the singing.  Father Christmas will make a flying visit and will be there when Suzy Yuill – Lenzie’s 2015 Gala Queen – switches on our Christmas Lights at 5:30 pm prompt.

Free Herbs for all!

Free Herbs for all!

Do you simply not bother buying a packet of herbs as you always end up throwing half of them away?  If so, check out the Lenzie Community Council herb garden on the bottom deck of the planter by the station car park.  There’s a real mixture of just about everything:

herbs

parsley (flat leaf and curly), sage, thyme, mint, marjoram, lemon balm, rosemary and even a couple of curry plants.  With the exception of the nasturtiums (edible flowers not yet in evidence thanks to our poor summer) the plants are all ready and will benefit from being picked.  So please help yourselves and enjoy the additional flavour they bring to your cooking.

Plants kindly supplied by East Dunbartonshire Council.
