This year’s ‘Jubilee’ Gala featured a biting wind at times, but nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of those taking part. Gala Queen Ellie Cook was crowned by Heather Findlay, who was Gala Queen herself at the very first Gala, 33 years ago.
Heather rightly pointed out that the Gala hasn’t changed that much in all these years and that gives a sense of continuity in the community when everything else seems to be changing.
There was a record turnout this year and the Community Council thanks all our performers – Stewart’s Irish Dance School, JC Pompoms, Boys’ Brigade Pipe Band, Barulho Beat and the East Dunbartonshire Cycle Co-op. Thanks too to all our stallholders who braved the chilly weather to create their own warm welcome.
Next year’s Gala will be on Saturday 1st June, so get the date in your diary now so you don’t miss out. (See ‘More news and pictures’ for lost item handed in.)
