Look out for neighbours

bogus-callerThe Community Police report at the May Community Council meeting noted theft from a house in Lenzie involving bogus Water Board workmen.

Dont’ think you wouldn’t be caught out by these characters.  According to PC Ross Blain, they are very clever in terms of what they do.  These thefts are often targeted.  Best thing is to lock the door and check with the Police.

He emphasised the need for householders to look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours and notify police if anything untoward is seen.  Police would rather check out a false alarm than be faced with a robbery or bogus work incident with the perpetrator long gone.

Fairtrade Breaktime

Breakspic2107Fairtrade Fortnight this year is about the food and drink you choose for your Breaks.  Fairtrade tea and coffee are well established at Break time, but what about cakes, biscuits and sweets made with Fairtrade ingredients?  And then, there’s fairly traded fruit from countries where farmers struggle to provide life’s necessities for their families.

To give you some ideas, Lenzie Fairtrade Group is putting on a coffee morning on the theme of putting Fairtrade into our Breaks.  There will be a range of coffee blends to taste, plenty of home-baked Fairtrade Break items to try, as well as the ever-popular ‘Smoothie Bike’.

There will also be lots of fun activities for children to help them understand Fairtrade in an enjoyable way.  And of course, the usual array of stalls to browse, where you can buy Fair Trade products and crafts.

Don’t miss it – 10-12 on Saturday 11th March in Lenzie Union Parish Church New Hall, Moncrieff Avenue.  Admission charge £2 per adult and £1 per school age child.
