possible Cathedral strings picTo celebrate our renewed Fairtrade Town status, Lenzie Fairtrade Group is organising a concert to be hosted by Lenzie’s very own Donald Macleod of Lenzie Union Church – himself a noted musician and formerly of the RSNO.   Donald will guide us through some of his (and our) favourite classical pieces to be played by Cathedral Strings and will introduce recorder group Arcara.  They were extremely well received at the Campsie Mayfest and bring a whole new perspective to recorder music.

So if you’ve ever felt a bit flat on a Monday evening, join us in Lenzie Union Church on Monday 19 September at 7pm and give yourself a real treat. There will be stalls to browse before the concert and during the interval when refreshments will be served.  You will also have the opportunity to hear the latest news from the Coach House in Balmore, from John Riches the founding Director there.  This is a first for Lenzie so make sure you don’t miss it!

There will be an admission charge of £5 per adult and entrance for school age children will be free.

The Lenzie Fairtrade Group is delighted to announce that it has successfully renewed Lenzie’s Fairtrade Town status for another two years.  The Fairtrade Foundation awards Fairtrade Town status and ensures that standards are maintained over time. It was particularly impressed with how Lenzie as a community has embraced and supported Fairtrade values.  So much so, that the Foundation is planning to use Lenzie as case study and an example of best practice to encourage other small towns in the UK to follow our example.

Good things, it seems, do indeed come in small packages and we are very proud and grateful to be part of such a caring community which considers the welfare of the producers of Fairtrade products.
