Planning Questions

garn1May and June meetings of Lenzie Community Council spent some time on three long and complex Planning Applications of public interest – a proposal for a pub/restaurant at the former Larkfield Centre, nine houses in the same area (see picture) and a proposal for 44 detached houses and 24 flats on the former Lenzie Hospital site.

In these cases the reports prepared by LCC’s Planning Convener are invaluable, as they extract the main points of the applications and highlight the issues that may be contentious in a Planning context.  At its June meeting, LCC agreed to make these reports available on this website.  Click as necessary for the Larkfield Centre Report, the Woodilee Road Report3 and the Lenzie Hospital Site Report.

The first two reports have in common a proposal to make an access off Woodilee Road and objections have been submitted by LCC in respect of this aspect (see Woodileerdaccess).

Happy reading!

Sun shines on Gala

Parade2016(1)

The Parade leaves Lenzie Station, led by the Boys’ Brigade Pipe Band and Andrew Meek’s veteran Darracq.

What a difference it makes if the sun shines!  This year’s Community Council Gala was the best for at least 4 years and some say, ‘the best ever’.   We certainly had the best ever support from local businesses and this made it possible to put a roof on the stage and do all the things needed for the twenty small trader/ charity stalls and the estimated 3,000 or so people of all ages who turned up at some point in the afternoon.

High quality youthful entertainment abounded with dance groups, gymnastics, jump rope specialists, bands and sports competitions, to name but a few.GQueen2106

It was a genuine community event and very special thanks go to all who worked to make it so – not least Lenzie Rugby Football Club who provided the all important venue.

Gala Queen was Sophie Stewart of Lenzie Primary School attended by Page Boy Viggo McLeod and Maids of Honour Catriona Maguire from Holy Family, Arden Murdoch from Lenzie Moss and Valencia Wright from Millersneuk Primary School.
