mama imageThis week we have a new restaurant/bistro opening in Lenzie called MaMa da Vinci’s.  The popular Lounge has been closed for a few days and opens the doors of its new venture for the first time today 22 November, to welcome the local community – and others from farther afield.  MaMa da Vinci’s aims to provide great quality food and wine in a family environment.  The emphasis is Italian including stone baked pizzas and classic pasta dishes and, as in Italy, children are very welcome and even have their own menu.  However, those who are in the habit of popping in for breakfast or a coffee won’t be disappointed as MaMa will continue to serve these.  The premises are fully licensed and Fiona and Laura look forward to welcoming old friends and new faces.

Lenzie-logosmallLenzie Community Council is holding its AGM on Wednesday 21 November at 7.30 pm in the Lenzie Public Hall.  We would like to invite Lenzie residents to come along to hear more about the work of the Community Council during the past year and find out what our plans are going forward.

Our guest speaker at the AGM will be Tracy Mitchell who co-ordinates the Lenzie Fair Trade Group and who will speak about Lenzie’s progress towards becoming recognised as a Fairtrade Town, as part of the wider initiative to have Scotland recognised as a Fair Trade nation.  Tracy works for Just Trading Scotland and is a Board Member of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum.  The Lenzie Community Council has been supporting the Group’s efforts and three members of LCC are on the local Fair Trade Group.

LCC meetings are not normally open meetings so our AGM is your chance to let us know how you think we are doing and what we could be doing better.

2010switchon[1] (2)Come and join us outside Lenzie Old Parish Church for Carols and the switching on of the Lenzie Christmas Lights at 5pm on Saturday 1 December.  Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass will be providing the music and the Lenzie Christian Fellowship will there to ensure we manage a really rousing rendition of our favourite carols.

Then at 5.30 sharp, our 2012 Gala Queen Ellie Cook will switch on the Christmas Lights.  Father Christmas has also promised to pay a visit and we are expecting him to arrive about 10 minutes before the lights are switched on.  After the official proceedings, refreshments will be available in the Church Hall.  Everyone is most welcome, so please come along and warm up with some tea or coffee.
