There are several ways to respond:

1. Complete and send the on-line questionnaire at questionnnaire

2. If you don’t have internet, pick up a hardcopy version of the questionnaire at Day-today Express, Andrew King, or Gillespies Garage and Freepost it to the address on the flyer

3. Compose your own response and email it to the Post Office at comments@postoffice.co.uk

Information on all these opportunities to make your views known to the Post Office is on flyers available in eight different businesses in Lenzie. The Post Office has drawn up its own comparison between the services available currently and those proposed for the PO counter at Scotmid, Gallowhill Road (see services) and you may wish to look at these before responding.

Your Community Council has already submitted a 2-page response making the case for retention of a Post Office counter near to the centre of Lenzie and has now received an acknowledgement. As always, we would be happy to hear your views via the ‘Contact Us’ option on this website.

There was lots of support for Fairtrade in Lenzie in 2012 and the Fairtrade stall in the Coffee Lounge (now MaMa Da Vinci’s) established a regular presence. But this year it seems that Fairtrade is happening all over Lenzie. There will be events during the Fortnight at St Cyprians’ Childminders, the Girls’ Brigade, the Junior Boys’ Brigade, Anchor Boys, Cubs, the Lenzie Public Hall Mother and Toddler group, Lenzie Old Church, Lenzie Union Church, University of the Third Age, and St Mary’s Church in Kirkintilloch with its Christian Aid Fair on Saturday 2 March.

If you belong to one of these groups please check with them for the date and time of their event. Otherwise, come along to Mama Da Vinci’s on Friday 8 March to stock up on Kilombero rice and Eswatini chutney, not to mention Divine Chocolate – as well as crafty gifts!

More big news is that our detailed application to gain Fairtrade Town status has been completed and submitted – watch this space! Since posting this notice it has been announced by the Scottish Government that Scotland has achieved Fair Trade Nation status – only the second nation after Wales.

One or two of the starters may not have crossed the finish line (although we counted them out and counted them back) so if you think you should be on the list somewhere or your name is not quite right on the list, let us know and we will try to correct before the final list goes in the Kirkintilloch Herald. Many thanks to all those involved, especially the joggers, trotters and walkers.

Our guest speaker at the AGM will be Tracy Mitchell who co-ordinates the Lenzie Fair Trade Group and who will speak about Lenzie’s progress towards becoming recognised as a Fairtrade Town, as part of the wider initiative to have Scotland recognised as a Fair Trade nation. Tracy works for Just Trading Scotland and is a Board Member of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum. The Lenzie Community Council has been supporting the Group’s efforts and three members of LCC are on the local Fair Trade Group.

LCC meetings are not normally open meetings so our AGM is your chance to let us know how you think we are doing and what we could be doing better.
