GlasgowHospital_005_Adult Hospital Main EntranceMark McAllister of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS made a very informative presentation, at the Community Council AGM, on current hospital developments, focused on the new South Glasgow Hospital on the Southern General site.  The new hospital complex will include a Children’s Hospital, replacing Yorkhill.  You can see all the details for yourself by clicking ‘SGUH Presentation Nov 2014‘.

The presentation has a useful map of Greater Glasgow, showing where services will be retained or moved to the new site.  Facilities in the new hospital are outlined, together with transport options and project timelines.

DSCN3205This year’s Lenzie “Commonwealth Games” Gala is on Saturday 7 June at Lenzie Rugby Club.  In this year when Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games, we are delighted to announce that the Community Council is planning Lenzie’s very own afternoon of sporting fun for all the family.  We have obtained some lottery funding to ensure that our Gala will be bigger and better than ever and are banking on a record turnout.  All your usual favourites will be there plus some extras you won’t have seen before.  And did you know that a stall at this year’s Lenzie Commonwealth Games Gala can be yours for as little as £10 for the afternoon?  If you would like to know more, contact Liz Ibbotson on 07771 608979 or email liz.ibbotson@ntlworld.com.

bakeoff

The Bake-Off competition on Saturday 8th March was something of an experiment.  Would anyone enter?  Would anyone come? So the Lenzie Fairtrade Group was delighted (and a little relieved) to see a queue of people waiting with their Bake-Off entries.  All three categories (Nursery/Primary, Secondary and Adult) were well represented and the standard of baking was high.  The judges were Fiona McLeod MSP, Georgia Kerr from Lenzie Academy’s domestic science team and Helen Sayer from the Fairtrade Group and they were impressed by the appearance, taste and texture of the baking, not to mention the creative use of Fairtrade ingredients.  There were Fairtrade prizes for the winners in each section and certificates all for winners and runners up.  Names in the frames were:

Nursery/Primary group:         Winner, Kate Tierney;  Runner up, Aliya Brear

Secondary group:                   Winner, Naomi McConnell; Runner up, Nairn Watson

Adults:                                    Winner,  Jane Tierney; Runner up, Ellie Mackinnon
